Lightweight, Versatile Construction Mats

DuraDeck® is a Strong, Lightweight Composite Mat
Ideal for Temporary Access on Most Construction Job Sites.

DuraDeck® highly portable access mats are designed to be used as turf protection and temporary roadways or pedestrian paths over otherwise impassable terrain. DuraDeck construction mats provide safe access for vehicles, equipment and personnel. DuraDeck is perfect for a wide range of construction and landscaping applications.

Strong Composite Matting that Can Be Reused on Many Jobs for Many Years

DuraDeck is a unique molded HDPE plastic mat that is durable, lightweight, and very strong. Mats are engineered to provide ground protection and access over soft surfaces, while providing a firm support base and traction for numerous construction activities. Each mat is manufactured from a solid sheet of molded material, providing greater strength and shear resistance then layered, hollow, or laminated matting. There are no weak spots to break, chip or separate. DuraDeck mats (86 lbs. ea.) can be carried by one or two persons and positioned easily without special tools on any job site.

DuraDeck ground protection mats are manufactured in the United States and are chemical and weather resistant with UV inhibitors that virtually eliminate fading and degradation. Each 4 ft. x 8 ft. mat is rigid, yet flexible to withstand heavy construction equipment without cracking or breaking.

Versatile 2-Sided Traction

DuraDeck comes standard with a rugged traction pattern for heavy equipment on one side and a pedestrian-friendly, non-slip tread design on the other side. The rugged traction design includes two parallel treads positioned 90-degrees from adjacent treads to prevent equipment spin-outs in wet or slippery conditions.

Strong Connection System

DuraDeck construction mats have connection holes at each corner and in the middle of the 8 ft. side, allowing mats to be configured side by side, staggered, or at 90-degree angles to each other. DuraDeck mats can be connected using 2-way or 4-way DuraLink metal connectors, capable of handling heavy vehicle traffic.

DuraDeck can also be used without any connectors on most temporary projects. Learn more about installation with DuraLink.

Better than Wood

DuraDeck construction mats provide a much better return on investment than traditional plywood. They are more economical, support much more weight, will not warp, rot, crack, delaminate, or absorb water and contaminants. These mats can be reused for many years. See the difference

The Signature Advantages

  • Weight-Bearing Capacity DuraDeck mats have a weight-bearing capacity of up to 200 psi / 80 tons depending on the ground condition.
  • Support Structure DuraDeck incorporates multi-directional structural support allowing for distribution or dispersion of PSI weight factors. DuraDeck is not intended for bridging.
  • Composite vs Plywood DuraDeck mats meet all local requirements limiting the use of arsenic-treated plywood on construction sites for roadway and access use.
  • Surface Preparation DuraDeck mats are designed to be used with no ground preparation over grass, gravel, soil, concrete, asphalt, mud and sandy soil conditions.
  • Environmentally Friendly DuraDeck construction mats will not absorb or retain harmful chemicals or invasive species and thus will not transfer contaminants to other jobsites.
  • Made of Recycled Plastic All DuraDeck products are manufactured using partially recycled plastic material.
  • Maximum Shipping Efficiency Up to 500 DuraDeck mats can be transported on a standard tractor trailer or ocean shipping container, and the 4 ft. x 8 ft. mats fit inside the bed of most pickup trucks.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • DuraDeck matting vs wood – what’s the difference?

DuraDeck is much more economical, distributes weight better, is much stronger, will not splinter or crack, will not absorb water or contaminants, and can be reused for many years.

  • What is DuraDeck’s weight capacity?

DuraDeck can support loads up to 80 tons over grassy fields, sand, and aggregate surfaces. The amount of weight that DuraDeck can support varies, depending on the subsurface density. For example, on deep-mud surfaces some care should be taken when moving heavier loads (15,000 lbs and up on a two to three axle vehicle) and metal links should always be used. Sandy surfaces will support heavy weights, but wider pathways should be considered to prevent sand drift. Contact one of our sales professionals with any specific application related questions.

  • Can I drive and turn on DuraDeck?

Yes, move just about anything over DuraDeck. Drive and turn most common vehicles and loads on DuraDeck, including tractor trailers, forklifts, backhoes, pickup trucks and other heavy equipment. It is important to note that the weight DuraDeck will effectively support can vary, depending on the subsurface: extraordinarily soft soil or mud will limit the weight of the load. For heavier loads, such as tractor trailer trucks, we recommend linking mat sections together utilizing our rugged metal DuraLink™ connectors.

  • How does Duradeck protect grass and turf?

DuraDeck protects the turf by distributing weight and preventing rutting and point loading by wheels and equipment. Soil compaction is one of the leading causes of turf damage and DuraDeck helps prevent this by providing a wide footprint (4 ft. x 8 ft.) over which equipment can move. Another leading cause of turf damage is wheels and other dragged or moved objects. DuraDeck prevents grass from being "ripped" from the ground.

  • How long can I leave DuraDeck installed?

DuraDeck can be continuously installed for no more than 2-3 days on sensitive grass or turf surfaces, though DuraDeck may be installed indefinitely if damage to the grass beneath is not a concern. It will not rot, crack, warp, or delaminate and as such is the ideal system for longer term construction projects, drilling projects, or general construction activities. For longer projects on important turf surfaces, remove the DuraDeck during daylight hours every two days, for 1-2 days, to let the grass recover and engage in photosynthesis.

  • How much time does it take to install and/or remove DuraDeck?

Most of the time spent installing DuraDeck has to do with bringing the material into position for actual installation. DuraDeck should be staged as close to the installation location as possible. With material staged, it is possible to lay approximately 10 mats (320 sq./ft.) with two people in about 20 minutes using the metal DuraLink. Use teams that are a multiple of two people for greater efficiency in handling the mats. Signature rental crews (10 people and a supervisor) generally install about 850 mats in roadway configuration (2-3 wide), using metal links, in one full 8-hour day.

  • How many DuraDeck panels can be transported in a tractor trailer or a 40 ft. ISO shipping container?

About 500 DuraDeck sheets can be loaded onto a standard US tractor trailer or 40 ft. ocean container. The only restriction to loading more material is maximum over-the-road weight limits of 80,000 lbs. Five hundred mats weigh approximately 43,000 lbs. and a typical truck weighs 20,000 lbs.

  • Does DuraDeck float?

DuraDeck has a specific gravity of about 0.96 and as such will be slightly buoyant in water (specific gravity of 1.0). For in-water applications, we suggest anchoring the DuraDeck using the pre-formed holes around the panel's perimeter.

  • Is DuraDeck available in custom colors?

Yes. DuraDeck is available in custom colors on orders of 500 sheets or more. There is an additional charge for a custom color, which varies depending on the specific color required. Custom colors have longer lead times.

  • Is Signature Systems Group the manufacturer of DuraDeck?

Yes. Signature Systems Group is the world's largest manufacturer of composite matting and modular flooring systems in the world. Our DuraDeck mats are shipped directly from our factory and undergo rigorous quality checks. When you buy from Signature, you know you are buying directly from the manufacturing source. We encourage you to always look for the DuraDeck and Signature names when considering any type of modular flooring or matting system.
